LGBTIQ+ buddy
De Regenboog Groep offers support to people from the LGBTIQ+ community. The LHBTIQ+ buddy is there for LHBTIQ+ people for whom life is not going their way and for LHBTIQ+ newcomers who want to integrate.
Maybe someone is struggling with mental and/or addiction problems and there is loneliness. Someone would like things to be different but how? Refugee LGBTQ+ people sometimes find it difficult to build a new life here. They experience psychological problems, do not yet have a network, still need to learn the Dutch language and are looking for their way in a culture that is new to them. That doesn't happen automatically.
An LGBTQ+ buddy helps!
Our buddies are volunteers who are themselves part of the LGBTQ+ community or are very involved in the community. They feel solidarity with other LGBTQ+ people, do not judge and are open-minded in life. They would like to support someone. They can do that by talking, doing activities, exploring what someone likes and supporting them to achieve that. A buddy does not take jobs off someone's hands, but helps someone on their way and encourages them to pick things up again.
A buddy meets with someone once a week or once every two weeks. This can be at someone's home or somewhere in town. Together with the participant in the project, the buddy looks at what the participant likes and considers important.
Our buddies receive training in which attention is paid to common problems and questions. In addition, they are supervised by the coordinators who are themselves LGBTQ+ people.
